My head needs to catch up with my scale...

I have all these thoughts swimming around my brain so I figured I should blog it out.

Yesterday I had seen a lot of friends that haven't seen me in a while and I get a ton of compliments like I have been getting lately and EVERYONE keeps asking me "How do you feel?" And I pause and I say GREAT,(because I am doing great)But a part of me is thinking I am still me I still feel like me. They are asking if I feel different as a smaller person.  Let's face it I do feel more comfortable in my skin, my ankles and knees don't get swollen from walking, I can cross my legs ( I still get amazed at this)

I am not sure if it is because I had WLS and they know this that they think I would feel different?

I have started to notice people looking at me, to the point I think to myself to look at my outfit make sure everything is intact. It's a weird thing to notice, having people really see you.

people are starting to be nicer to me, they smile at me, take returns easier, get more customer service. It makes me so sad that being heavy in this society we live in makes us be treated differently.

  1. That is so true! Society can be very mean. Congrats on your weight loss so far.

  2. Oh my gosh I am feeling exactly the same way, it kinda freaks me out! I am hoping that I will get used to it a little more as this goes on...

  3. I was just talking to someone who said I wouldn't believe how differently people will treat me when I lose even more weight. It's really sad that this is how society is.

  4. I agree - it does suck that heavier people are frowned on or worse still, ignored. I heard this early on in the game - that I would be treated differently and I thought.. wanna bet. Lucky for me, it actually hasn't happened (being treated differently) because big or small, I won't be ignored lol. But I do know it happens.

Give it time and your head will catch up. You are probably being looked at cos you're a big spunk.. actually a small spunk.. doh! xxx

  5. I can only imagine how that must make you feel. You are still the same person aren't you. The looking at you calms down when everyone gets used to how much weight you have lost....

  6. Totally great observations. The key is to NOT let this sabotage you with misplaced guilt. Society sucks about fat prejudice-- but gaining weight won't help you. Not like it's in your plans, but just sayin'...

  7. That is a very interesting observation -- about the customer service -- I hadn't thought about it before but I think you are right. I is very sad. Even though I am happy for my decision to get WLS, it isn't for everyone and discrimination of any kind is unacceptable. Thanks for the insightful thought!

  8. I don't notice the lack of customer service at stores or anything, definitely at bars though. But it could partially be my own lack of confidence.

    Interesting post.

  9. I've been noticing this lately too. Doors held, big smiles, better service. It's horrible how shallow people are. What, did they think we were going to sit on them before? Or steal their food? Jeez. It's actually made me a little angry. I need to wrap my head around this more.
Thanks for posting the observation. I love how someone else's blog will bring up a point that you hadn't really thought about yet, but it's in the back of your mind and bothering you.

  10. Isnt that amazing? Like before you were invisible? Meanwhile, most of my friends have not said ANYTHING about my weight loss, even though it is nearly 50 lbs. I think they do not want to offend me by acknowledging that I used to be fatter. Like I did not know that! But my band is in the closet, so it is different.

Yes, that is a VS strapless bra. It is a 7-way bra with a bunch of different straps but I used it just as a strapless. Great one. Which one did you get that you wore in your black dress pic? That one seemed go give you some great low cleavage - looked like you were not even wearing a bra!

  11. I'm noticing that there has been a shift... there is an almost complete sociatal prejudice against the obese. But, chubby (which I consider myself)... not so much. I remember once when some snot nosed kid said something to me about my weight, after the birth of my first child, over twenty years ago. I was only 150 lbs!!! Now, at 184 lbs, I'm treated very well. Not so much at 299. Sometimes it pisses me off to no end. Most times, I choose to use it to my advantage. What always pisses me off, is the way the medical community treats the obese. There is a huge difference in how seriously you are taken, and their willingness to take your medical issues to heart. I've been subject to this, and this is where fatism needs to change. That's all. For now. Great subject.

  13. good observation. i am also noticing that the guys who thought i was a "b*tch" at work are warming up to me... i say: whatever.

but agree that our heads need to be in a good place.

ps. i think your florida trip may have been in my community based on one of the pool photos...(D.C.?)
